Editorial Review for Texas Bar-B-Que – by Chad Kirtland

The Scene
Corral decor brings the Lone Star look to life. Steer horns and cowboy art grace wood-paneled walls. Swinging saloon doors lead to backroom booths. Dining is no fancy affair--order at the counter, then collect your plastic trays and paper napkins for a finger-licking feast.

The Food
Barbecue comes slathered in tangy sauce with hefty sides of slaw and beans. Ribs, pork, brisket and chicken all emerge from the in-house smoker packed full of flavor. Each comes on an overflowing platter; a combo plate satisfies the indecisive. Steaks get a five-hour smoking before hitting the sizzling grill, which socks in a special taste. The smoked potato is a house specialty: A heaping spud is stuffed with chopped barbecue, sauce, cheese and chives. Seafood dishes and po' boys feed those not interested in the sweet sauce.

I recently moved to Metairie from Texas and I was excited to find this establishment down the street from my apartment. That excitement was short lived! I would not reccommend this place to anyone I know, in fact I recommend against even trying it. The 'sliced brisket' seemed to be more boiled than smoked and the sauce tasted like a combination of marinara and hot sauce and was slathed over the beef as if the brisket were spaghetti. Please Please Please don't waste your money here!

KarenCoway must have this place confused with someplace else. There are no waiters. It's pretty much self serve. You place your order and pick it up when they call you. The barbecue sauce is excellent. The meats are very lean, no fat, moist and juicy. It melts in your mouth. They have the best potato salad in the world. Been going there for years and will continue to do so.
