Editorial Review for Mulate's New Orleans – by Chad Kirtland

The Scene
The cavernous dancehall dining room is accented with a stage, dance floor and bayou murals. The massive papier-mache accordion above the bar clues you in that this place is all about Cajun flavor on a New Orleans scale. Out-of-towners from the convention center across the street and hotels around the corner eat and dance side by side with locals who come for Cajun food and fun.

The Food
Catfish Mulate's is all you need to know--etouffee, jambalaya and corn macque choux all on one plate. Other greats include alligator (get it fried, grilled or blackened), red beans and rice, and gumbo galore. Mulate's Amber is a house-made draft that drinks like a tasty red ale. Another appropriate brew is Dixie's Blackened Voodoo.

5 Star Rating: Highly Recommended

I'm a Cajun, born and raised (but relocated), and I recently had the opportunity to dine at Mulate's in New Orleans. The food was outstanding... reminded me of my grandma's. The service was great, and the music even better. Definitely a great family alternative while in New Orleans. My kids loved it!

Pros: Very family friendly

Cons: No parking lot

3 Star Rating: Average

As a born and raised south Louisiana boy, I have to admit this is not what I expected fom a local Cajun style resturant. The food was average and the prices a bit high. But then again, maybe I expect too much as my entire family is "Cajun" and Cajun food is what I was raised on. The place and the ambiance is nice and the service pretty good. If you are looking for a taste of Cajun cuisine, it's overall not a bad place to try.

Pros: service is pretty good

Cons: average food quality and prices a little high
