Editorial Review for Lafayette Hotel – by Gayot.com
The Scene
This 1916 Beaux-Arts building sits at the edge of Lafayette Square just outside downtown New Orleans. It is a small, nearly hidden jewel on the St. Charles Avenue streetcar line. It is a short walk from the Central Business District and the museums, art galleries and restaurants of the Warehouse District.
The Details
Polished woods, Italian marble and English carpeting define the tiny lobby. Among the property's assets are its quiet, friendly service and 44 comfortable guest rooms and suites. Each room is individually decorated with English botanical prints, floral fabrics and overstuffed chairs. The marble baths are supplied with terry-cloth bathrobes and French-milled soaps.

Insider Tips
The ExtrasAlthough the French Quarter is just a short cab ride away, you are close to Uptown, rich with history and home to great local attractions like the Audubon Zoo and Tipitina's.
User Reviews for Lafayette Hotel

I stayed for a weekend last month (February 2008) with my family. I was completely disappointed in the condition of hotel and the rooms do not look anything like the images on their website. We checked into three rooms, each one was dirty, the linens were in poor condition, the bathrooms were grimy and the common areas smelled. There was also a water leak in my room which caused damage to my property. The hotel did not compensate me for the damage and was very rude. Do not believe the pictures on the website! I would NOT recommend this hotel to anyone!
Cons: Bad location, dirty rooms and rude staff

We liked the location, which was about 6 blks. from the French Quarter but still within walking distance an away from the noice, our room had no view (except for our neighbor's room), so it was dark and gloomie, it had valet parking, and very helpfull staff.
Pros: inexpensive, helpfull staff, valet parking
Cons: no restaurant or bar
