Just finished eating dinner at Sukho Thai. I was so disappointed with the food I felt that I should write this review while the bitter taste was still in my mouth. Had the Ahi Tuna appetizer which was incredibly bland. Their Thai Iced Tea was mucus-thick. Ordered the Waterfall Beef for an entree. Could only stomach two bites. It had an overwhelming chemical flavor to it. On the bright side the service was fantastic and our waitress was kind enough to take the entree off of our bill. If you are looking for good Thai food in New Orleans this is not the place. Try Bangkok Thai in the River Bend instead.

Maybe this is just Thai food from a different region than we're used to-- but we've eaten Thai a lot, and I also lived in Thailand for a month. This was pretty much the worst Thai food my husband and I have had. I'm sorry to say this about a place that is otherwise so nice. The ambience is very cool, and the service was good-- relatively quick and a friendly waitress.. We got a Tom Yum appetizer, drunken noodles and lime curry. All three dishes were extremely salty, like borderline inedible. We gulped down three glasses of water each due to the salt. The drunken noodles (Pad Kee Mao) seemed to be cooked in a soy-based sauce instead of a chili sauce-- tasting more like Pad See Euw. We did point this out to the waitress, thinking there must have been a mistake with the order, but she said it was normal for them. After grimly eating about 1/3 of the food, we got a to-go box and paid $40 -- which seemed steep, given the quality. We decided to walk the salt off for a bit, and along the way some guy asked us if he could have our leftovers. We gladly handed them over

My sister and I went to Sukhothai to find a great Thai place in New Orleans. We arrived and waited 10 minutes to be seated, which clearly indicated a seemingly understaffed restaurant since there were only five other tables filled. However, we still gave it a chance. We wanted to eat good thai food! We sit down. Wait 10 minutes. Nothing. The waitress's friends walk in. They get immediate drink service. We get ... nothing. Another 10 minutes pass. The waitress stops and chit chats with her friends, serves another table, and collects dirty plates from a table nearby. Yet, we still get ... nothing. So finally, another 10 minutes pass and the waitress proceeds to take her friends order. So what do we do...Leave with an empty stomach, not even able to sit in the restaurant a second longer after this rude waitress ruins our chance to eat great thai food. Too bad, we were really looking forward to it too.

I love it so much that I want to go there at least 2-3 times a week. I'm from Bangkok Thailand just moved here to attend Tulane University. I was disappointed with La Thai and Basil Leaf with their unauthentic food but yet too expensive. Then, I found Sukho Thai when I went out with my new friends to Marigny area. I love it. I was so happy to find an authentic Thai restaurant here in New Orleans which I almost feel like eating my mom's cooking. I had Broken Net Soup and Dirty Noodle. It was a wonderful meal. My friends had Drunken Noodle, Pad Thai, Glass Noodle Spicy Salad. They also, loved their dishes. We finished with Black Rice Pudding. It was so great to discover Sukho Thai. It's really make me feel like home with the real Thai food and friendly atmosphere. Especially, they don't use MSG like other Asian restaurants. I just love it so much. I went back about 4 times in last 2 weeks. Next time I will try their vegetarian dish and I will let you all know again.

Pros: Authetic Thai food, with fresh ingredients and friendly atmosphere

Cons: Very busy on Friday and Saturday night.

See that this restaurant hasn't been reviewed in a while. Found out why tonight. Lemon Grass Soup (so bad I threw it down the garbage disposal - WAS there any Lemon Grass in it?) along with the Chicken Satay (flat pieces of soury tasting "mystery meat" with cheaply made bottled sauce -- also down the disposal) ordered for dinner tonight because I was sick and craving Lemon Grass Soup and Satay for comfort. Food arrived 45 minutes later. I'd been assured it would arrive in 20-30. Called the restaurant to complain (after I threw the food down the disposal). Clerk who answered the phone (same clerk who had trouble taking the phone order) was just plain rude. Told me "...perhaps you don't know what Lemon Grass Soup or Satay tastes like". Informed him I'd LIVED in Thailand for quite a few years, told him I wouldn't be ordering from them again and hung up. 5 or so minutes later, the OWNER had the CLERK call me back to tell me I wasn't welcome to order from them again! CAN you believe!?!?!?!?!? In a city where good food is so celebrated, I am, simply put, shocked. My pleasure to give them 1 star. Am a "local" and will NEVER recommend them to anyone. Will pass along my experience to other "locals". My pleasure, rude morons! Shame on you.

Pros: None that I've found.

Cons: Rude service staff (except delivery boy who was well tipped). MORON owner.

Sukho Thai is just off the beaten path. It is definitely the best Thai around. We have taken several trips to the New Orleans and each time we make sure to drop in for some Cashew Chicken and Drunken Noodles. Pair your meal with one of the many green or white exotic teas.

Cons: No air conditioning??

I've eaten here twice in the past month. I am from San Francisco and have eaten Thai food zillions of times. Asian restaurants in New Orleans are generally bad, but this place is not terrible; I would rename it "Hit-Or-Miss" Thai. Some things are delicious, some things will make you resent the fact you had to spend money on them. Comments on specific dishes: Pad Thai: on our first visit it was good, on our second visit it was unusually peppery and hot. I like spicy food, but I do not usually associate pad thai with being burn-your-mouth spicy. It was odd. Lemongrass soup: (not sure if that's the name of the soup, but it was clear broth soup with chicken and mushrooms). We had coconut cream soup on our first visit, and that was very good. But the lemongrass soup was TERRIBLE. No stars! I have eaten Thai soup so many times I almost thought it could never be bad. I was wrong. This was a watery broth with no flavor at all. Highly un-recommended. Shrimp satay: this is just an odd dish and not very tasty. My friend keeps ordering it. The shrimps are flattened with the shell still on, so you must pick the shells off them, which is not particularly easy. The shrimp themselves are dry and flavorless (maybe some seasoning would be good?) You can dip it into the sugary peanut sauce to experience some flavor I guess, but that leads to another issue--the peanut sauce is watery and not great.

Pros: In the Marigny near the quarter. Prompt seating.

Cons: Inconsistent and overpriced food

I recently ate here on a rebuilding trip to New Orleans with 10 high school students and 2 other adults from Oregon. We overestimated the size of the restaurant and did not make a reservation - lesson learned - but were nonetheless seated within 10 minutes at a long table in the center of the restaurant. In retrospect, we wished they had told us they could not accommodate a group of our size. Despite our energetic waitress' best efforts, the kitchen could not keep up with an order for 13. We waited nearly 45 minutes after ordering for our food to arrive and even then, it trickled out onto the table over the next 15 minutes. The first people served had finished by the time the last people's food arrived. Fortunately, the food was good enough to help our hungry teens forget the wait. On the whole: a good restaurant, but not for groups.

Pros: nice presentation of food; quirky, colorful ambiance

Cons: parking can be tricky, slow service for large parties

The food here is excellent, although there are many dishes that are crossed out on the menu post-Katrina which I find to be slightly un-professional, but no big deal. I have tried many dishes there but by far my favorite is the red curry with beef, and I get Roti bread with it. It is phenomenal. The only drawback to this restaurant is the service. If you go, request that the only Asian guy there be your waiter. He's polite and knows the menu and you will get your drinks and food in a timely manner. Anyone else, however... good luck! I have had 2 other waiters there and each time had to walk out of the restaurant - and I am not that kind of person! The first time we waited a half hour just to get water, another 15 to get the drinks we asked for, and after another hour without our food coming out, we decided to leave. The second time, my entree came out on time, however my boyfriend's entree NEVER came out. The waitress kept coming out and saying "It's almost ready." She never should have brought out my entree until both were ready. And after 20 minutes and his entree STILL hadn't come, I paid for my meal and we left. I'd say your best bet is to call in an order and pick it up.

Pros: The food is excellent. The environment is good.

Cons: The service is by far the worst I have ever had.

Mmmm I had shrimp pad thai cause in New Orleans you GOTTA try seafod-type stuff. I usually get chicken elsewhere but this place made me want to try shrimp. The spiciness was perfect, and the shrimp were big and delicious. It's a BYOB, and when we B'ed our own B, they didn't come over for like five minutes to uncork the wine. That was a bit annoying, but they made up for it by serving us the most excellent veggie rolls on earth. They came cut in half, and you could actually distinguish which vegetables were in the rolls. Boyfriend had Pad See Ewe, which was devoured with pleasure and nary a breath. Service could have been better, but it was late and they let us just sit there and finish our wine with no hassle.

Pros: Veggie rolls, good-sized portions

Cons: I hate paying money for food...and the service could have been better.
