Good softshell crab and fried shrimp. Restaurant is like an old seafood restaurant--not fancy, which is just fine b/c it's the food that counts. But some items are way overpriced.

I love the Galley. Me and my family and friends have been going to the Galley for years and 3 things have never changed, the food, that is amazing, the fast and efficient service, and the friendly owners and employees. I recommend the Galley to anyone looking for great seafood in New Orleans. You won't regret it.

Pros: food and service

Cons: none!

I can only assume that the people making negative comments about 'attitude' are not native New Orleanians. They are confusing local culture, which is unique, with other places that are not! The Galley is owned by hard working people who handle lots and lots of customers every day and they really get the job done consistently. The 'large' man should have recognized that the chair was not sturdy enough to hold him and the person who called mid-rush at lunch is inconsiderate....call back at 3 when it is more quiet or pick up the menu on your lunch hour. I am a native New Orleanian who has Galley food brought over when family comes to visit me in Florida...especially the potato salad. I wish that I could bring the staff and their "attitude" along to experience New Orleans for a few days! Lighten up and enjoy...vive le difference!

Pros: great atmosphere

Cons: none

To the reviewer claiming that the person on the phone was rude and should take care of their customers... she was taking care of her customers. That was the point. When you go in to the restaurant then you will also be a customer and receive the same consideration when someone is rude enough to call during the lunch rush and ask for something that can clearly wait until later. If you had ever been there you would know that they are always packed so your "potential" check probably doesn't hurt their business too bad because people who know good food go back for more. You know, because it's good. Actually, REALLY good. I live out of state and EVERY time I go to New Orleans I stop in. My family gives me a hard time because they know it is mandatory any time I come to town. The oyster po-boy always has perfectly fried oysters (crispy not mushy) and perfectly fresh french bread that is chewy but not hard. The boiled seafood is excellent, specials are always great, sweet potato fries are killer, and I have always had very friendly and professional service. Overall, I would say that the loss was yours and not theirs.

We love the Galley. On our trips to the area we eat there twice in one day. Wonderful Red-fish, Shrimp, sweet potato french fries and Blue crab. We ate there on our honeymoon. It is a family run establishment and it is the Real Deal. Very popular at anytime of day, some people just need to go to Applebee's, and leave this gem of a restaurant to the rest of us. Great service, great food. We have never had a problem there. Going back in April for our anniversary.

Pros: great food for the money, not a tourist trap, parking convenient

Cons: We're moving to Red Stick soon so we can go more often

I was referred to this restaurant because my husband and I's anniversay is this weekend and we wanted Seafood. I called today to get a menu faxed over to me and this is how the conversation went: Me: Can I get a menu faxed to me please. Lady: Is this for right now because if not we are very busy and I can't tie up the phone line for that long. Me: No, It's for tomorrow Lady: Well call back tomorrow or later this evening because I am handling too many tickets right now. Thank you...goodbye. Me: IN UTTER SHOCK!!! If you don't have the time to serve your customers then you shouldn't be in business. I needed the menu faxed today because tomorrow I will not have access to a fax machine. So basically if this is how your service is then why should I want to come over there and ruin my husband's and I's special night because of your bad attitude. If you are that busy then put the freaking menu on the internet. Yes, I could have called later this evening to get it faxed before I leave work, but after that attitude I don't even want to bother. They just missed out on a $100+ ticket + a good tip and I will never go there or refer this place regardless of how anybody raves about their food. It's not the product, it is the quality which includes customer service!!

Pros: Nothing!

Cons: Attitude, Service, Reputation

I have to admit that the seafood here is tasty and flavorful, but the owners are not helpful and the food is overpriced. $18.34 for an oyster/shrimp plate. This place is not a fancy, sit down and be waited on hand and foot restaurant; therefore, I think the price is too steep. Here are some problems with the service at this place. A couple of years ago, my father is a heavy man and he sat in one of their cheap plastic patio chairs that they use in this restaurant. The legs folded under him and he was sprawled on the floor. The owner rudely stated that he should know better than to sit in that chair and she isn't responsible for it. The worst part is that all of the chairs were the same. I have had other experiences with rudeness at this restaurant when picking up food orders for my office.

Pros: Tasty Food

Cons: Rude owners, poor quality chairs, overpriced food

The Galley's seafood is wonderful. The softshell crabs are absolutely wonderful. I brought guests from Houston, TX and we all enjoyed every morsel of their delicious seafood. You must try it!

The menu is diverse, the food is outstanding and the service is great. Fried and boiled seafood as well as dinners from the regular and special menu. Biggest and tastiest boiled shrimp I've eaten anywhere in all my years in New Orleans. Softshell Crab Po-Boy unbelievable.

Pros: Food Quality, All Seafood, Service
